On-site Carpet and Wood Floor Drying
We understand the importance of quick response in regards to water damaged
wood floors. Quick drying is crucial in order to restore wood floors to
pre-damage condition. Wood floors are very sensitive to moisture, and with
proper action can be restored with the help of professional drying and
monitoring. If no action is taken, Within a few days, the floor can not
hold the water anymore and it will expand causing cupping or crowning. At
this point it is very difficult to restore.
On-site Carpet Drying
Factors to be considered when drying carpet:
Age and condition of carpet - If a carpet is so old or in bad shape that it
is a better value to replace than attempt restoration, we will let you
know.
L .Trevino Carpet & Tile uses resources such as ITEL to determine exact
value of carpeting.
Type of water - Types of water affect the restoration
process; there are basically three types of water losses.
Level 1 - Clean water from a clean source - no debris.
Level 2 - Grey water: this is water that is not necessarily clean but not
hazardous (washing machine, dishwasher, aquarium or waterbed).
Level 3 - Black water: sewage back up or any run of water outside building
structure. These losses are hazardous and should be handled with caution.
Level 1 & Level 2 water losses can be restored as long as mitigation action
is taken relatively quickly.
A Level 1 water loss will turn into a Level 2 water loss in 72 Hours.
A Level 2 water loss will turn into a Level 3 water loss in 48 Hours.
Level 3 water losses are considered health hazards . It is best to do the
following:
1) Dispose of any furnishings that have come in contact with water.
2) Sanitize
3) Dry
4) Replace.
The temperature of the water is important as well. A hot water heater with
very warm water will affect the glue which is used to hold the carpet fibers
together and can cause delamination.
On-site Wood Floor Drying
Factors to be considered when drying wood floors:
Wood floors are very sensitive - proper drying is critical.
Wood naturally holds water - up to 10% depending on the type
of floor.
Wood can absorb another 5-10 % without showing any
noticeable effects.
Within a few days, the floor can not hold the water anymore and it will expand causing cupping or crowning. At this point it is very difficult to
restore.
Emergency Response is critical for any damage to wood
floors.
